Office and school: 8 GB is fine. Gaming, creative work, and coding: 16 GB is the sweet spot. 32 GB only for professional video editing or running virtual machines. More RAM matters more than a faster CPU — a laptop with too little RAM will feel slow faster than one with a weaker processor.
SSD. Full stop. An SSD makes any laptop 3–5× faster at booting and loading. HDDs are outdated and only useful as secondary storage for large data archives. Get at least 256 GB SSD, ideally 512 GB.
Mac: great for creative work (photo, video, music), long battery life, seamless iPhone integration. Windows: more options, more gaming, broader software compatibility, cheaper entry-level models. For school, either works — go with the ecosystem you already know.
For gaming and video editing: yes, absolutely. For office, school, and coding: no, an integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe / AMD Radeon) is plenty and saves money + battery.
